Cécil AMEIL (LU)

AMEIL European Affairs Delegate - SES Global, ASTRA

Cécil Ameil joined SES in September 1998 to open the company's offices in Brussels. Now one of the two representatives of SES Global in Brussels, he is in charge of public affairs and regulatory matters with European bodies active in relevant fields for the company, in particular EU institutions, the Council of Europe and the CEPT. Cécil is also an active member of the Satellite Action Plan Regulatory Working Group (SAP REG) which puts together the satellite industry companies and operators involved in close relations with the European Commission and the CEPT.

Since the year 2000, Cécil is in charge of coordinating SES' regulatory efforts pursued at national level to enable its multimedia operations in Europe. This notably covers all authorisations / licences needed to allow customers to market two-way satellite communications from anywhere within the EU.

Cécil looks back at more than seven years of experience in dealing with Community affairs, and he is specialised in European policy in telecommunications, audio-visual and copyright sectors. He also covers some aspects of European competition law for SES.

Before joining SES, Cécil was with the European public affairs consultant Adamson Associates, in Brussels for more than three years, and, beforehand, had an assignment with the European Parliament's research services providing expertise to MEPs on information society and information technologies (IT) matters, in Luxembourg. Prior to this, he worked with the telecommunications department of the European Commission (ex DG XIII) dealing with telecommunications and IT dossiers.

Cécil also gained valuable experience in Brussels working in the French Permanent Representation (DATAR Department) and in the car industry trade association ACEA. He earned a Masters in political sciences with a specialisation in international and European monetary affairs, and he also has a high degree in mathematics.

Since its conception, Televisió de Catalunya has sought to reflect the identity of a country and acted as a media of public communication which seeks to give a response to the concerns of Catalans regarding news, entertainment and culture. TVC is the leading television in Catalonia with 6 television channels:
- TV3 is a channel which has a highly varied and entertaining program content, of a general nature in an attempt to reach the widest audience posible.
- Canal 33 is characterized by a more specialized and select content, addressed to an audience segmented by specific interests and needs. Together, TV3 and Canal 33 have more than 15,000 hours of broadcasting annually.
- TVC International. A channel which broadcasts our own productions via the satellite Astra in Europe and the satellite Hispasat for broadcasts addressed to America. This channel is addressede to Catalans who live outside of Spain.
- Club Super 3 is a children´s channel produced for Via Digital, which incorporates the brand and distinctive elements of Club Super 3.

After reading English at Wadham College, Oxford, Fran left in 1983 and started her career at ad agency Valin Pollen, as a media planner buyer working on a range of UK and international accounts.

She then moved to London Weekend Television where she helped to set up their corporate and financial sales development unit. Desiring then to move from media sales to media marketing she took a job at More O' Ferrall Adshel, the outdoor media company, as Marketing Controller. While she was there she studied for and obtained an MA in Marketing at the University of Westminster in 1990.

In 1992, when Carlton Television, joint owner of ITV, Europe's most successful commercial television channel, won the licence for the London weekday television station, she moved back to television and helped establish the research department. Carlton Television took over Central Television in 1994, Westcountry Televison in 1996, and HTV in 2000. She was made Marketing Manager in 1994 and Marketing Director in 1996. She has experience of interactive televison and advertising through the creation of Carlton Active, and helped to develop the internet division Carlton Interactive.

Guillaume CHENEVIERE (CH)

Since March 2001, chairman of WRTVC, the World Radio and Television Council, a UNESCO sponsored civil society initiative in favour of public broadcasting.

Until then director general of TSR, the French speaking national television of Switzerland.

Formerly a sociologist (European Centre for Culture, Geneva Public Education), a journalist (Tribune de Genève), a public relations executive (Chrysler International) and a theatre director ( Théâtre de Carouge), he joined TSR in 1975.

For the last five years, he has chaired Swiss Solidarity, the largest charity organisation of Switzerland.

He recently directed Sophocles' Ajax for the stage and published a book of memoirs entitled CHE.

He writes articles on media and society issues in «Le Temps», supervises all radio and television programmes of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation at Expo.02, the Swiss national exhibition (May-October, 2002) and is actively engaged in the preparation of the UN World Summit on the Information Society, Geneva, December 2003.

François is now in charge of Meridian Design's Geneva office and is a partner of dpx architectes in Geneva.

Along with his practice, François is also working as research collaborator at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

Hubertas Grusnys was born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 19.06.1961. After finishing secondary school he was recruited for the Soviet Army. From 1984 he was studying in Vilnius University law department. In 1989, together with his partner, he launched first private radio station in Eastern Europe and called it M-1. He was running private radio stations for more then 12 years, including national TV network, which one he sold in 1998. All these years of independent Lithuania his main business was focused on media developing and running radios. Also he took part in Lithuanian association of broadcasters, holding position of Vice president. Need to mention, that he was representative of broadcasters for Lithuanian media commission of ethics.

His radio career began at a time when private commercial radio was just making its first cautious steps upon Russian land. Graduated from the Faculty of International Journalism of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, he first worked as an editor for TASS news agency and then joined Gosteleradio, a radio and TV monopoly in the Soviet era. From 1997 through 1991 he headed the department of radio broadcasting for Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In 1991, he co-founded one of the first independent radio stations in Russia, "Radio 101, 101.2FM", which launched its first broadcasts in January 1992 . After the station was sold, Yuri Kostin registered a Russian Internet radio (www.101.ru). Currently, being the president of The Internet Radio and a part of Autoradio team, he is working on a project which will result in creating a radio holding, consisting of four radio stations in Moscow and 200 stations in other Russian cities plus an Internet music portal and a production center with a new record label.

Promoted to a Media Account Manager in 1997, she was made responsible for the Carlton Television advertising account, Carlton being joint owner of ITV, Europe's most successful commercial television channel.

After a number of years running the Carlton account, Tara took her planning skills and television knowledge to Carlton Television where she took up a position as the Business to-Business Marketing Manager. In 2001 Tara was promoted to Marketing Services Controller.

Joseph C. Lemire is an investor in several European and former Soviet Union companies. In that capacity, he acts as the president of GalaMedia, a multimedia company composed of Gala Radio, GalaNet, GalaTV. Gala Radio is the leading radio company in Ukraine since 1995 and winner of the 1999 NAB International Broadcasting Excellence Award. Mr. Lemire is also president of GalaNet, a leading internet service content provider in Ukraine and Russia, and GalaWeb a leading webdesigner. GalaTV which focuses on TV production in Russia and Ukraine also produces events such as President Clinton's recent visit to Ukraine and other events and/or concerts.

Walter LEROUGE (BE)

At present acts as representative of Belgium-the Flemish Community within the National Coordinators' Committee and as President of the Management Board of AV-Eureka.

Upon his return from AMSTERDAM (1991), where he directed the FLEMISH CULTURAL CENTRE "De Brakke Grond" for almost 10 years, Mr LEROUGE was appointed Inspector-General of the new Media Directorate and ad interim Director-General for Permanent Training and Education at the Ministry of the Flemish Community.
Especially devoted to developing international relations, Walter LEROUGE was appointed representative to the intergovernmental multilateral authorities for the audiovisual, media and mass communications by the Flemish Government.

At the level of the EUROPEAN UNION, Walter LEROUGE has been a member of the Media Committee and the Group of Experts on Culture-Audio for the Council of Ministers for over 10 years.

He is also a member of the Management Committee of the pan-European co-production fund EURIMAGES at the COUNCIL OF EUROPE and of the Executive Council of the EUROPEAN AUDIOVISUAL OBSERVATORY, both in Strasbourg.

As a national coordinator and president of the Management Board of AUDIOVISUAL EUREKA, he was one of the founding fathers of the organization he will be leading.

Last but not least, he coordinates the professional jury which annually selects the Belgian competitor for the AWARD FOR BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM.

With Stijn CONINX' "DAENS" in 1991 and, recently this year, Dominique DERUDDERE's "IEDEREEN BEROEMD", Flemish cinema added two important Oscar nominations to its record.

Former Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Communication and Information, recognized worldwide for his unwavering commitment to freedom of expression. Furthermore, he is the CEO of Pool 2000 and the Vice-President of the Association of Swiss Private Radios VSP/ASRP, where he is the expert for all questions around radio audience measurement techniques.

Philippe NICOLET (CH)

After obtaining his law degree, he worked for two years in the appeals court before turning to journalism.
For the next ten years, he travelled the world over, covering news stories for the newspaper 24 Heures.
His active and continuing involvement in video, which he discovered in 1971, led him to create his own company, NVP Nicolet Video Productions.

When the Lausanne regional television channel, TVRL, was created in 1994, Philippe Nicolet established and directed the news department.
He produced a science fiction series, and wrote and directed a full-length movie in 2000.
The same year, he co-founded SwissWatch TV with the Swiss Watch Journal.
He is currently preparing the launch of "Dreamer", a series of travel programmes.

Nebojsa RISTIC (YU)

Studied at the Faculty of Political science in Belgrade, worked as a journalist in national daily news, magazines and regional TV.
From 1997, was editor in chief at SOKO TV, independent station in eastern Serbia, member of ANEM.
In March 1999, at the begining of the NATO air strikes, the Federal Ministry of Telecomunications closed down the station, as it was re-transmitting parts of SKY, CNN, BBC, DW and other news programmes of an independent nature by satellite.
He stuck ANEM posters with critical message about press freedom on the windows of the station, and was arrested by the Secret Police on April 12, 1999.
Accused of spreading "false news", spent 339 days in prison.
Now, coordinator of ANEM TV Network.

Chris SCHUEPP (DE)

Chris Schuepp works as media consultant with UNICEF in Geneva. Formerly a radio and TV journalist in Germany, Schuepp worked as Country Director for Internews Network in the Kyrgyz Republic (Central Asia) in 2000 and 2001 before joining UNICEF as coordinator of the Young People's Media Network. Schuepp holds a university degree from the Faculty of Journalism at the University of Dortmund in Germany.

Mr. Sherwood has worked in public sector telecommunication policy, planning and management field and provided consulting services for over twenty-six years. As a specialist in designing services for local franchising authorities and nonprofit cable access management organizations, Mr. Sherwood's experience includes developing and implementing strategic plans and public policy in a converging telecommunications landscape. His expertise includes review of existing public, educational and governmental access programming services, conducting community needs assessments in conjunction with cable franchise renewals, development of management structures, operational and capital budgets and community media production equipment and maintenance packages to create community programming content and opportunities for public participation. Other areas of planning and implementation experience include board development, human resources and operational policy development, marketing and public relations programs and strategies as well as development and fundraising.

Ksenija studied at the University of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade from 1987 - 1992 (Radio, Theatre, Film and TV) and is currently taking a postgraduate course in media.

Her professional training covered attendance at Forums and training spells in Austria, Denmark, Greece and the U.K.

Ksenija's career over the last 12 years or so has provided her with a solid experience which, in 1999, led her to becoming Production Manager of TVB92 and as an executive producer for B92 she has received a number of awards at European and International level.

Frederik Stucki has worked with more than 30 independent radio and TV stations in Switzerland and Germany, starting as a show host and news speaker, later on as a programme adviser and consultant in training and copyright issues.

Today, he successfully runs the bilingual radio Canal 3 in Biel-Bienne (CH) and hosts a weekly talk show on TeleBielingue TV.

He is a member of the executive committee of the Swiss Private Radio Association VSP, the Swiss delegate for the European Radio Association AER in Brussels, and Vice-President of the "Prix Walo"-Academy (Swiss Showbusiness Awards).

With his company YT&T (Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow)TM he intends to work in documentary and fiction.

After working in theatre and TV in the UK, he was Founder-Director of "Florence Rep" English Theatre (Firenze, Italia 1978-83), while at the same time producing-writing-presenting "The News in English" and "Faces Behind the News" for Canale 48, Florence, Italy.
He is Writer/Director/Narrator of "Destination: Malta", "Cities of the World: Valletta", "World Discoveries: Calypso's Isle" and "World Discoveries: BirguFest"; he also provides the narration for the 3 series: "Cities of the World", "World Discoveries" & "Destinations".

From 1988 to 1996 he was a faculty member at Art Center College of Design (Europe).
